The textile series of glitched patterns started from my interest in glitched spaces and the narratives behind glitches. Glitches can arise from errors in code, it allows a space for imagination, liberation and the freedom not to be defined.
While the process of making those textiles, the machine was manually switched on and off in the middle or at the beginning of each pattern. Therefore, the patterns were not finished, glitched and blurred with the others.
It resulted in unrecognisable knitted patterns made by constantly intended errors.
In the book Archaeogaming: An Introduction to Archaeology in and of Video Games, Reinhard says “Glitches are artefacts created from the intersection of hardware, software, and platform”, glitches happen in these in-between spaces between digital and the physical worlds. It refers to the term ‘Ghost in the machine”, it seems like there is somebody that breaks the system. According to the article, Burn the glitch?: An archaeology of digital queers, Glitch is a sign of showing that in some stances, there is always labour involved in the production. For example, the writer considers fingerprints that are found on pottery and other materials similar to glitches, it provides more information about the production process and the labour involved. The imperfection, also with machines and the digital world, questions the idea of perfection, and what can be created from these errors in the system.
